Prenatal Care

The Cold Lake Primary Care Network is here to help women maintain a safe and healthy pregnancy.

The CLPCN Registered Nurses, in consultation with the Nurse Practitioners, provide consistant and comprehensive prenatal care throughout each pregnancy to any unattached patient.

What to Expect at Your Appointments...

First Trimester (0 to 13 weeks)

  • First visit will include review of obstetrical/medical/family history, ordering routine lab work and early ultrasound

  • Maternal vital signs assessed each visit

  • Maternal weight measureed each visit

  • Urine sample to be provided each visit 

  • Physical will be done by the NP

  • Optional testing includes genetic screening (nuchal translucency)

  • Dating ultrasound

  • Visits every four weeks with the RN

Second Trimester (14 to 26 weeks)

  • Routine ultrasound at 18 to 20 weeks

  • Fetal heart rate assessed each visit

  • Gestational diabetes screen at 24 weeks and repeat blood work

  • Fundal height assessed

  • Visits every four weeks

Third Trimester (27 to 40 weeks)

  • Moms with Rh negative blood type will receive a WINRHO shot at 28 weeks

  • Referral to the delivering physician

  • Fetal movement counting

  • dTap vaccine recommended

  • Group B. strep swab at 35 weeks

  • Visits every two weeks from 28 to 36 weeks, and every week from 36+ weeks
